2026 Series:
TURN
“Turn” is about all the almosts and the what-happened-next’s: the myths that form the memories around “this time last year” and the fixations, imaginations and delusions that color it all in.
“Turn” is inspired by my little wounds surrounding wanting to be “picked” and the haunt of all the little conflicting ideas that have driven me over time. It is inspired by crocus at the start of spring and goldenrod at end of summer, by pick-me-girls and catholic mystics.
There is a romance to the frustrations that if kindled the right way can lead to a catharsis of ideas that is exuberating or maybe even nourishing. Yearning and loneliness twisted like plied yarn with interconnection and over-stimulation. The urge to be truly seen, chosen, and understood by someone or something in particular and the dangers of the unguarded hyper and earnest behavior that it can lead to. Where does confidence live and what of the unchecked ego? What am I afraid of being and why?
It’s difficult as I write this to not feel dismissive of the angst-ridden seeds that grew into these drawings and quilts but what motivates my passion to create is often a cloying or melodramatic temperament. “Turn,” in a way, has become an investigation of or an evolution into creating things that might hold grace for myself. A confession of prayers and spells getting me closer to holding my life of wanting with less guilt.
So that is what all of this work has been about: exploring the passion of wanting and how that hunger translates into relationships with the self and everyone else.
